RSPCA is non-profit making farm animal welfare scheme, that promotes improved animal welfare on farms, during transport and at the abattoir. The judges, who included vets, academics, livestock consultants and representative from the trade press commented on the Easyload™ system as "having the potential to have a huge impact on the industry". After CO2 was approved for stunning, Anglia Autoflow developed 5 stage Control Atmosphere Stunning that just used this gas. Birds in drawers smoothly transfer through this system, calmly pass into unconsciousness and remain in this state throughout the hanging and kill process. This eliminates bird stress, releases of adrenaline in the blood and significantly increases the quality of meat. The gas injection and transfer of birds through the CAS systems is automatically controlled and adjusted to suit the bird and line throughput. Poultry breeding has been part of our activities since 1949, first, within the framework of the Bábolna State Farm, which was established after 1945 on the grounds of the Bábolna Stud Farm founded in 1789. In the late 1960s, when hybridisation also emerged in global poultry breeding, we developed our first breeds under the TETRA brand name.
Thanks to successful and modern breeding methods, by the 1970s our products were already present in more than 50 countries worldwide, and the TETRA name became synonymous with poultry hybrids of high genetic value.
Following the political and economic transition of 1989–1990, the former state farm was transformed into smaller companies. In the early 2000s, after a privatisation process, Bábolna TETRA Poultry Breeding and Marketing Ltd. was established in its current form and has been fully privately owned since than.
In the period that followed, significant investments were made: the company’s real estate assets were modernised, new and up-to-date buildings and a hatchery were constructed, and as a result of successful genetic research, our range of layer breeds expanded. In addition, coloured meat and dual-purpose breeds were also introduced.
While the breeds marketed under the TETRA brand are primarily selected for long-lasting and cost-effective egg production, in recent years we have also developed our ELMA breeds with improved heat tolerance, as well as the COUNTRY layer breeds specialised for alternative production systems.
